I know several people working in the service and hospitality industry. It always pains me to hear their stories about how people poorly tip or dont tip at all. Im wondering, do people really understand the dynamics of service. Just in case....it is a normal practice to tip people for service rendered. It is best practice to tip between 12-15 percent for standard service, and 18-20 percent for service delivered well. If you go to a restaurant for example to dine, and your order is taken, the server is knowledgeable, can make suggestions and answers questions; if your food is served in a timely fashion, the temperature is right; if your drinks are right; if the server was attentive then they EARNED their tip. Especially if you gave them directives beyond the described above, you are obligated to tip. THIS IS HOW THOSE IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY, PARTICULARLY THOSE WAITING TABLES SUBSIDIZE THE $2.80 THEY RECEIVE AS A BASE WAGE. If you dont want to tip properly, or dont believe you should tip at all, dont dine out. Get take out or STAY HOME. Cook your own food, serve yourself. A tip is the established way that we PAY FOR SERVICES in America. TIP PLEASE!
