I know some of my friends. & family are aware of Gregs recent diagnosis & subsequent battle with Acute Myelo Leukemia. He 1 st discovered this with a routine lab test he took prior to our trip to Portugal. We were to leave July 16 but he was told on the 15th he couldn t go anywhere but to see a hematologist oncologist.. The Dr had him get a bone marrow biopsy which showed a pre leukemia condition. The treatment being bone marrow transplant which is actually stem cells given from a matched donor. We were told there is no place in the Great State if New Mexico that performs this. After several weeks of figuring out where to go we drove 1300 mi to Indianapolis, Indiana arriving just in time. He was admitted August 4th to Franciscan St Francis hospital needing blood & platelets on admission but by god he drove every mike there himself! A 2nd bone marrow biopsy showed he in fact has full blown Leukemia. 38 days later, 2 rounds of ass kicking chemo, he has survived total wipe out of his bone marrow. He has begun to produce WBCs, platelets on his own that appear normal. His RBCs are still behind but he gets transfusions for that. He was discharged from the hospital wed afternoon. He returns to out patient clinic tomorrow. The next course of treatment is still undecided but will defiantly require more chemo. The bone marrow. (Stem cell) transplant is not decided yet. This has been very hard on our family. Our daughter is expecting her 1st child August 4. He is a week late today. I came home to be with her on the 1st. & Gregs mother is staying with him at an extended stay hotel. He is very weak but happy to be out of the hospital. I want to thank all who have reached out to us. All the kind words, well wishes, positive thoughts have made it easier for us. Thanks for all the prayers as well. Having to leave him while he was in a very bad place was very difficult. I especially want to thank Aunt Jane. She has helped us so much & Rodney bring Greg the recliner to the hotel is great! Zoe & Paul for Keeping the home fires burning. You did a wonderful job & my sister & Shiner for all you do. Coming home to a clean house & shrubs that have been watered. & the wonderful meals. Also I know if I asked you would be there along with Travis, Aaron & Carrie. Thank you especially to Darlene. He is you baby boy & I know you wouldnt have it any other way but to me you are amazing. Thank you for coming & staying with him the month I am gone. The nurses & Drs at St Francis in the bone marrow unit are beyond the best I have ever had the pleasure to be around. (& Im a professional!) it sounds crazy to go from NM to Indy but I feel we received amazing care. This is phase one. Not sure whats next, but this is far from over. Our life as we knew it has changed. Its scary. Its s Surreal! But its happening so well deal with it! Thanks again to all. Cindy
