I know some of you are not happy about the vote. My guess is that those who are unhappy fall into the SATISFACTORY and NEEDS IMPROVEMENT category. It is just not right for a teacher who goes above and beyond the call of duty and receives a DISTINGUISHED rating to be lumped in with the lesser quality teacher who receives a PROFICIENT rating. I support the teachers but I want to speak about the elephant in the room that no one wants to admit exists. That elephant in the room is the cold fact that only about 7 out of 10 teachers are worth retaining. Those other three, and everyone knows they exist, are the ones who just put in the minimum amount of time and effort to get a paycheck. You know that teacher who is on Pinterest, Facebook, and other media most of the day? These three do not put any time into lesson plans, they simply print worksheets off of some website or they show tons of videos. These teachers may be great human beings and really nice, but they just dont cut it as a teacher, and they should be replaceable. Of the 600 teachers in District 205, I would guess that about 100-150 need to be let go so that higher quality teachers can be found. I am also guessing that the most vocal Pro Union teachers fall into this group. We teach kids that their actions and choices have consequences, yet many of you are unwilling to accept the consequence of a shortened school year. Why not? Double standard? If a kid does not show up for ten days what happens? Before you start unloading all of your anger and your plans to overthrow the School Board, take a hard look at your Union. Not the local union, but the state union. Do you feel like they exploited your as part of their larger agenda?
