I know some of you have seen the articles and pics Ive been posting. The Big Idea and #joinreeve and #36for36, but have no idea what Im talking about. Last Thursday, the day before the 10th anniversary of Christopher Reeves death the Dana and Christopher Reeve foundation announced some amazing news regarding clinical trials they have been doing. Researchers implanted epidural stimulators into 4 men who have spinal cord injuries. 1 is a quadriplegic, 3 are paraplegics, with complete injuries (which means they had no sensation or function from their injury site down) Amazing things, that they never expected happened!! All 4 men experienced huge improvements in their ability to control autonomic functions and to move their toes, feet and legs on command! This recovery has challenged the notion, that once damaged, the spinal cord could never be repaired. This is an unprecedented breakthrough in this field and brings hope to millions of people living with paralysis. (This information comes directly from reevebigidea.org ) What happens now is they want to broaden the study to 36 more people with spinal cord injuries. To fund a study so large, they need money. Big money! Fifteen million dollars! So what they are asking, and what I am asking is for 36 dollars! 36 for 36! Alex and I gave up pumpkin lattes for the week! This is huge my friends and has the potential to change so many peoples lives. Maybe even my sweet baby girls life, one day. So please read about the study.
