I know that I am normally lighthearted in my posts but today I - TopicsExpress

I know that I am normally lighthearted in my posts but today I feel the need to be a bit more serious. To that end I want to talk about Dead Poets Society, a movie from 1989. It’s about an English professor attempting to teach his students a love of writing and poetry, a large task if you ask me as poetry has never made much sense in my mind; I’m more of a numbers man. But I will admit that I really liked this movie and when the new iPad commercials aired they borrowed Robin Williams voice from it which reminded me of a poem that was used in the movie, and the iPad commercial, that I find to be truly wonderful. It is titled O Me! O Life! by Walt Whitman. This is what it says: O Me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; Of the endless trains of the faithless – of cities fill’d with the foolish; Of myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I, and who more faithless?) Of eyes that vainly crave the light – of the objects mean – of the struggle ever renew’d; Of the poor results of all – of the plodding and sordid crowds I see around me; Of the empty and useless years of the rest – with the rest me intertwined; The question, O me! so sad, recurring – What good amid these, O me, O life? Answer. That you are here – that life exists, and identity; That the powerful play goes on, and you will contribute a verse. As I said, I find this poem to be wonderful. The sentiment from it that each of us has a part to play and contribute in this life is magnificent and one that needs to be shared with everybody. Each of us does have a part to play in this world and the lives around us and no matter how large or small a part you may feel you are contributing just know that your acts are immensely important to those around you; that your lives are part of the powerful play that is ever going on. I don’t know why this has been on my mind of late but I want all of you to know that you truly matter in this world, that you matter in the lives of those around you, and that you are wonderful examples of goodness to me every time I come into contact with you. So what does this have to do with my usual Tuesday post about New Girl? Nothing I just wanted to share some of my thoughts with you. Oh and I guess I should say that we are going to be watching New Girl tonight at 9:30 at my house for anybody that would like to come. Hopefully I see a bunch of you there.
