I know that I talk about this a lot--but just trying to save you unnecessary visits to an urgent care. I have had three patient interactions over the past week. One mom said her child was having difficulty breathing and what urgent care should she go to. I recommended the SFH ER--he ended up in the ICU. (fine now) Yesterday a dad call and said his boy was having some issues and was going to go to a local urgent care for a specific problem. I told dad that this problem required a specific test that despite going to urgent care they would have still needed to go to ER. He went to the ER, did need the test (that would not have been available at the urgent care) The last conversation was about a boy who was injured in a football game and was really hurting. Went to urgent care--and you guessed it--needed to go to the ER for evaluation--actually was sent to another ER, not SFH ER, then ended up being transferred to SFH. Three different locations--how many different bills? Teledoc can handle almost all urgent care (convenience care) issues. Immediate problems where you as a parent says-we need to be seen RIGHT NOW, that means the ER. This includes fractures with significant pain, trauma, etc. Especially trauma. Cant emphasize this enough, you are worried about a traumatic event, go to where the trauma care specialists are--SFH 61st Yale. Most lacerations are fine for urgent care. Almost 100% of ankle injuries in kids--do not need to be seen immediately. Unless there is significant deformity. Often better to wait 48-72 hours and see how things progress. So many things in kids just get better. If they dont, come see me. i can handle wrist fractures pretty well with teledoc. Use Teledoc for treatment, use teledoc for triage. Will save you time and money. #teledoc
