I know that several of my friends are reading their Bibles for the 1st time so here are a few quick tips to make it go a little smoother- 1) Dont start at the beginning (Genesis) its not a regular book. I recommend starting with the Gospel of John then moving to some of Pauls shorter letters (I really like Ephesians & Colossians) 2) Dont try to read a lot. Read slowly and stop when you get to something that you can apply to your life. 3) Always ask questions like, What does this mean for me?, What does God want me to know, What do I need to change?, etc. 4) Always read with a Pen & notebook/paper. You remember what you read if you write stuff. try paraphrasing what you read to make sure you got it & write the answer to #3. 5) Dont be afraid to underline and highlight in your bible. My preference is a ballpoint pen and a credit card (or similar) for a ruler. This will allow you to flip back through and stuff will jump out at you! (Colored pencils work great too.) 6) Always pray that God would help you to understand and live out what you have read. 7) Find a friend (Facebook or better yet, face to face) to share what youve read. This is just a quick list so if you have other helpful tips youd like to share, please comment below!
