I know that some of you are old enough to remember the painting His Masters Voice, which was used for many years as an advertising symbol for several record companies, notably in my memory RCA Victor. The painting showed a dog peering intently at a gramophone horn. Sadly these days it would be a good symbol for our congress. I noticed several instances in the bill to prevent a government shutdown of such obedience. Many large corporations naturally dislike environmental regulations, but it wouldnt be popular to repeal them so it is much easier to hamstring their enforcement by cutting the EPA budget. Likewise for taxes; in the face of much concern over the inequity of income in this country rather than attempt to lower the tax rates, why not just make a huge cut to the budget of the IRS. This is especially crazy as IRS auditors generate many times their own salaries in tax collections. As payment for this there is a huge increase in the limit on allowable individual political contributions so the rich will have even more influence. Oh yes, and they also voted to prohibit sage grouse being listed as an endangered species and prohibit a salary increase for Joe Biden.
