I know that there are some who believe the Ebola issue is overblown, and i dont disagree, but I dont agree either. I dont know. My spouse works for a local healthcare system as a Practice Manager over four Pediatrician offices. She spent yesterday afternoon in a system meeting on Ebola and their actions and has meetings scheduled with the doctors and staffs of the four practices. If their procedures are an example of what is happening across the country, it is very hard for me to categorize the situation as being overblown. Bare in mind that this is regard to their pediatrician offices. They are buying hazmat suits for all employees (classes later this week on how to put the suits on and off properly. No sign in sheets. They will not accept office appointment reservations for any child with a temperature without first a phone consultation with a Doctor. They will not accept walk-ins. They have telephone protocols (questions) for front office staff making appointments. They have protocols for shutting down an office immediately should they suspect that they have an Ebola patient complete with isolation rooms, emergency phone numbers, etc. I would suspect that protocols for other types of offices (general practice, emergency rooms, urgent care centers) are even more stringent and detailed. The system operates seven hospitals, a like number of urgent care centers and over 200 medical offices. The cost will easily exceed a million, maybe two or three million dollars, maybe more. Somebody thinks that this is critical and I am more inclined to trust the health professionals than I am the government. Suit yourself on who you think is telling the truth and who think might be being less than honest..
