I know that todays vote for Speaker does not in and of itself insure a given outcome for the 114th Congress, but it has certainly set the tone for all they will attempt in coming weeks and months. But more importantly, it has cast a dark shadow over all who work within the GOP on the ground back home, for every conservative grassroots activist, and for every single person who shall offer themselves up as Republican candidates for office at any level. NC had two freshmen Republicans headed to the House, each with a golden opportunity to send a message back home that our voice had been heard. Every weapon has a maximum effective range and the current leadership has failed to recognize when they have exceeded theirs. They seem intent on proving just how accurate Sir Winston Churchill was when he observed that American always be counted on to do the right thing - once theyve exhausted all other options.
