I know that we all have one or two folks on our friends lists that live to hurt, belittle, and piss off others. We all do--at least one. Personally, I no longer give them the pleasure of ruining my day. I have found that the best thing one can do is to take out their batteries. What I mean by that is dont acknowledge anything that they say until they possess at least some measurable form of decorum and mutual respect. These types get their jollies off not on content but on comments. A thread that produces many negative hurtful comments makes their day. They dont care who they hurt or how many friends they lose. In their minds they see themselves as intelligent and clever. Of course, they dont realize that throughout the day many private messages are exchanged back and forth discussing both their ignorance and their misplaced arrogance. It seems like a lonely existence to me, and for the masses it would be. These individuals are so miserable inside that they take it upon themselves to try and make everyone else miserable too. Because I have determined that there is no room in my life for misguided negativity, I no longer humor them with a response. In time that action serves to modify what I regard as hurtful behavior. So before you feed the monsters remember, you can always remove their batteries! Since deciding that I will no longer speak negatively to or about another unless doing so will in some way help them, it has proven to be the best course of action for me! Of course stating known truths and facts that are readily verifiable is not the same thing as speaking negatively to or about another. Just a thought. I know that I am happier and more productive as a result. It also frees up a lot of time for positive personal pursuits! Ooo-Rah!
