I know there are people out there reading all of this wondering what if she delivered at a hospital? Do they regret delivering outside the hospital at a birthing center? So on and so forth. I can say with 100% certainty that neither Berkeley or I would have changed anything about my labor and delivery experience. For those who dont know we chose to deliver at mountain midwifery birthing center with a midwife. We were able to a lot if the laboring in comfort of our own home, which when your in labor for 36 hours this is very nice. I did not have to stay in a bed on my back to deliver, I was able to eat/drink, move around etc. I did not have anyone pushing pitocin or an epidural in me which I did not want. It was a great experience, the nurse and midwife were amazing. Even if I had delivered in a hospital we would still be where we are today. There was no way to predict that he would aspirate merconium or that it would be this severe. The resuscitation started immediately and between the quick response by both the birthing center and englewood fire along with our close proximity to Swedish hospital Moxin was to the ER in about 10 minutes from birth. I am so happy that I at least got to experience the labor and delivery experience I had hoped for.
