I know theres been criticism but I feel that the Cesar Chavez film does a lot more good than bad and therefore is a must see. Sure its hagiographic, makes him into a saint, but it opens room for historians to contextualize the film. Im happy I can go to a major theater and watch such a film. Now if MLKs kids can get their act together his story might be told. While Im at it, why not a screen play on Fannie Lou Hamer or an adaptation of Jeanne Theoharis book on Rosa Parks? Those would be dope and easily marketed.
