I know they want us to choose one of three options, but none of these options address some of the limitations of the current system, as near as I can tell. Like all residents of buildings with mixed business/residential tenants and buildings with 5 or more units, I dont get any public curbside service. The City wants people to revitalize the uptown area by moving into lofts above businesses, but they dont advertise how little theyll get for services - we have to pay extra for private trash-only collection. I live 3 blocks from city hall, in an historic building with 2 apartments and 2 businesses (3 if you include my home studio), and I have to pay a private company to remove my trash, I get no composting service, and I have to schlep my recyclables to the blue bins. With no convenient public program in place for them, many such residents just throw out everything, unsorted, with their trash. If the City eliminates the blue bins without extending service to all residents, none of those people will recycle. Is there any plan to start offering trash/composting/recycling services to ALL Saint John taxpayers? While were on the topic of recycling: are they ever going to start offering glass recycling (like the rest of the world)?
