I know this is about seaworld, but Taiji brought me to blackfish, and watching blackfish made me realise the who seaworld thing. I posted this on their pages and tbh all I am getting is abuse from seaworld lovers. I dont think what I wrote was hateful, and I tried to emphasize the good they do with wildlife even tho I feel very angry at them. Feeling very deflated an tbh v. Depressed at peoples reactions. Theres still such a wide range of people who just dont care or dont want to know whats going on with these animals - capture, murder, enslavement and entertainment :( heres what I wrote anyway (Ill put it on here as seaworld will prob delete my comments and I know you are all wildlife lovers so will appreciate it!) its hard not just turn my back on people sometimes!!! #taiji #blackfish #seaworld Let me know what you think and please feel free to share as this highlight everything thats wrong with the whole system :( The wildlife rehabilitation work they do may be amazing - but as for keeping whales in small pools for the entertainment of people? Shameful, diabolical - all of those. Arguing that people would just not love orcas in the same way if they didnt see them doing tricks in shows and being trained to do humanised behaviour like taking a bow is very derogatory. I have never seen a real whale or dolphin, I educated myself and I love them just as much as someone who has been to see them at Seaworld. Maybe just run an ocean wildlife rehab centre - and release them when theyre better? You seem to be most proud of that work and justifiably so, and no doubt people would donate to the cause... so just do that and cut the captivity / stealing from the wild / keeping animals in artificial small pools when theyre used to the ocean / feeding a top predator of the seas dead fish / separating families. I know your trainers love them, but no human - even if he knows every single thing about them (which you certainly dont) has the ability to give these animals the kind of life they would have in the wild. Its impossible and there is no counter argument to that- you just cant do it, its wrong and you need to stop. We love seaworld because we love to see the whales and dolphins, but we need to start thinking about then and not how much of a great time were having. Who do you think you are that your confident you are doing this right!?
