I know this is up to the individual, but do I really care if a vegan item is called chicken or chik-un as long as it is clearly marked as not being from an actual animal? No, I dont, and I highly doubt the animals not eaten would care, either. I dream of the day when people will be repulsed by the idea of eating animals to the point where the familiar word is something we dont want to associate with but were not there yet. We live in an wildly imperfect world. Arguing over the finer points when 98% of the population still eats 150 billion animals every year is a luxury for when we have the time to waste, which we do not. If I were in a cage, would I want my advocates on the outside to be endlessly arguing over irrelevant specifics? No, Id want them to work on my liberation. Yes, language is part of that but cant we just stop distracting ourselves over details when there is massive, massive work to be done? The language will adapt when the culture changes, which is what we should be working on. Until we have the luxury of finessing these finer points, we need to work on changing the culture of violence against animals.
