I know this isnt anime related and completely random, but this is a major issue that has occured in the online gaming community that is not getting enough attention. Plus, Mauven gave me permission so, whatever. I wanted to make something serious, because this is an issue that is not getting enough attention. Plus, after DoritoGate and the issue with Anita Sarkeesian, this B.S. with the gaming media needs to stop. Recently, a Youtube user named MundaneMatt made a video critiquing a game on Steam called Depression Quest made by feminist indie dev Zoe Quinn. Shortly after, the video received a copyright takedown notice by Ms. Quinn under the excuse that the video used an image from her game that she didnt give permission for, even though that image is a publicly available image on the Steam page and used by the gaming press. (Also, there is something called Fair Use after all.) A little bit later, something else surfaced. A lengthy blog by her ex-boyfriend that tells why their relationship didnt work. Most of it is just boring gossip except for two things: Lying/Cheating, and the men she slept with. Before I continue let me make one thing clear, and I think I speak for everyone in the gaming community when I say: I dont care that she cheated with her partner. I dont care how many people she slept with. What I do care about is when those people she slept with are people in the gaming industry, and the media that can benefit her career and censor and silence all press and evidence that casts her, her game, or her feminist views in a bad light. These men shes slept with, these Five Guys, have been posting positive articles about her game Depression Quest despite previous articles and Steam reviews universally panning it, claiming that the haters are just misogynistic men that dont want women a chance to be part of the industry. More information on all the autocracies and the Five Guys will be at the bottom. As a result of this case of online media corruption added with the past incidents of DoritoGate, AnitaGate, the GMAs, and more, I am boycotting all online gaming media, until they confess to their wrongdoing and this matter is resolved. I encourage any and all who agree that this controversy needs more attention and those involved need to fess up to their actions to follow suit and spread the message through all forms of media. Now I bet youre wondering How will I get my gaming news or reviews? Easy, various Youtubers and sites like Reddit will give news about games and events, and for reviews Youtubers can help as well. Hell, Steam has user made reviews just for this instance. So please, do everything in your power to spread the message and shut this corruption down.
