I know this isnt necessarily the place to post this, but given the reach of this page, I cant pass up the opportunity. If the followers feel this is out of place, I will happily take it down. The course of history has not been kind to Huntington or Marshall University. We have experienced more tragedy and adversity than any community has a right too, but we have continued to press on. No matter what the future holds for us, we will persevere, because we have been through it all before. From floods and fires, to economic depression and loss of industry, to a terrible plane crash that took 75 of our best and brightest; Huntingtonians have taken it on the chin time and again, but keep moving forward. I look to a future when Huntingtons skyline is going up once again, when job growth is the highest in the nation and unemployment is virtually eliminated, when the population of the city is 100,000+, when the population of the metro area is 750,000+, when the enrollment at Marshall University is 30,000+ and a national powerhouse in sports as well as academics, and when we are recognized as one of the fittest and healthiest cities in America. I look forward to attending a game at our new baseball stadium, and looking out over a sold-out crowd of 60,000+ screaming Herd fans from the second deck of the Joan. I draw enormous inspiration from Marshalls football teams of the 1970s. They knew that they would have limited success on the football field, but that their successes would come in the years following. I tell myself daily that the wonderful things I want for Huntington may not come in my lifetime, but if we just keep fighting hard enough, we will be successful. There will be good times as well as bad times, but the worst is almost certainly behind us and the best is yet to come. We can make this future a reality, however, it will most likely not come today, or tomorrow, or even the next day. But if we remain focused and work hard, it will come. A wise man once said, Whether you think you can, or you think you cant, youre right. I believe this from the bottom of my kelly green heart and I think we can. Keep your chin up Huntington! ~Aaron-Michael Fox, admin.
