I know this speech is a couple years old and EEEEVERYONE was excited about it when it came out, but I never listened to it. I read Neils blog and I follow him on twitter, and I wasnt in the right place for it (despite that I was literally graduating in that May, in 2012). Anyway, Im finally listening to it, because Im not attending a commencement this year, and a bit of Gaiman inspiration is really good. This part stuck with me (around the 14:30 mark): You get work however you get work. People *keep* working, in a freelance world, and more and more of todays world is freelance, because their work is good, and because they are easy to get along with, and because they deliver the work on time. And you dont even need all three. Two out of three is fine. People will tolerate how unpleasant you are if your work is good and you deliver it on time. Theyll forgive the lateness of the work if its good, and if they like you. And you dont have to be as good as the others if youre on time and its always a pleasure to hear from you.
