I know we all feel adamant about the way animals are treated and this situation is bothersome, but please, no bashing or demeaning posts. The silver lining is that the cat is safe and in our care. Ten years ago Carol Piza came across a mini- Valentino at our Church colony- shy but adoptable and not belonging in our feral colony. We adopted this cross eyed little flame point out out soon after- home visit, references, $125 fee and a complete adoption profile. Last week I got a cryptic email from the adopter saying he needed to return JC. I talked with him about resources and anything we could do to help him keep the cat in the home but he was adamant the cat was going. I asked him to have his vet clinic fax over records to us and he said no, Ill give you fifty dollars.. What? After some difficult communication, I just wanted JC safely back to us and he dropped him off on Mon with a fifty dollar bill. Good news is that JC looks healthy, I believe he was kept inside for the last decade but the bad news is that this already shy kitty is terrified at Shadow Cats with all its hustle and bustle and his 35 new dorm mates in the Uptown area. Hes going to need time- lots of it- but even better would be an adoptive home in the Austin, Tx area. I feel sad that whatever life changes the former adopter is going through that it could not include JC and that he felt compelled to return him to us. However, I feel grateful and happy that he WAS returned to Shadow Cats in apparent good health and that he is safe. We cant always know what someone else is going through, but what we can know and what we do see, is the fallout and the damage difficult times can cause families and animals. For ten years we believe JC had a decent home, and well do our best to soften his transition as he finds his footing at Shadow Cats.
