I know we have some friends from the US and hopefully Iowa. A parrot rescue there is full to capacity, can you help with by adopting? Please let the parrot people that you know who live within our adoption radius (basically, within about three hours or so of Iowa City) that we need a lot of homes. If everything thats been scheduled actually happens, well take in 6 macaws in the next two weeks. That will make us totally full in the macaw area, with 28. The amazons are already full, also at 28. Greys and cockatoos are full, at 10. Small bird area has a couple spaces, but is nearly full, with 13 birds in residence. I will NOT crowd the birds any further, and I will NOT place birds where Im not totally comfortable with the adoption. If we have to close off intakes indefinitely, I will do that, with regret. Many of our macaws are challenging birds whove had hard lives. They need experienced keepers to help them live their lives. Most of our amazons are look-but-dont touch birds, many of them paired but not breeding. About half are wild-caught imports. Our greys are birds that need experienced people to work with them. The upside is that many of these birds would be comparatively low-maintenance, especially the amazon pairs. Feed, clean, provide toys, and watch them act like parrots. Most of the macaws are able to stay home on a large playstand and watch other birds. If youre qualified, and can make space in your life for one more feathered critter, please think about adopting.
