I learned some fascinating stuff about varroa while watching this lecture. Those dang mites are invisible to the bees because they smell like the various bees they are on - forager, nurse and larva - each has a different odor! VSH bees likely uncap mite infested pupa because they smell the sick capped pupa bleeding (from varroa feasting) and not because VSH bees are better at hearing mites in capped cells or other such nonsense.https://youtube/watch?v=fE4emUMyOWs
