I learned to drive back in the 50s. The truck I learned on had four wheel shoe brakes with a single master cylinder, not four wheel disk with anti-lock braking system (ABS) with a dual master cylinder. In those day I learned what it’s like to come to a stop sign put my foot on the brake and have it go to the floor. Very scary. From that experience I learned to start stopping before I had to. Now days cars with computer controlled engine, transmission, and ABS brakes leads me to believe people have forgotten how to drive. I have had my heart beating in my throat wondering if a car approaching a stop sign or red light at 50 mph and waits at the last minute to stop. That way of driving is very dangerous, and wears the brake pads prematurely.
