I learned today --after doing more research on RhodeMapRI--that there is also this non profit (Ill call it a sister organization) called **GrowSmart RI** that is closely connected to the RhodeMapRI plan. GrowSmartRI is an associated member and shares the same values as expressed in the RhodeMapRI plan, and is one of the leading advocates of the RhodeMapRIplan. One of only 22 municipal leaders from around the U.S. were chosen to form a nonpartisan Advisory Board of Smart Growth America’s Local Leaders Council. The Local Leaders Council is committed to helping communities compete and grow in today’s economy, generate a better return on taxpayer investment, expand transportation and housing choices for residents, and create vibrant places where people want to live, work, and play. Who is the municipal leader sitting on the local leaders council for RI? None other than Mayor Scott Avedisian. How about the taxpayers investments whose lives have been torn apart living in and around the airport? John Flaherty, Director of research & Communications at GrowSmart RI stated in his An Economic Development Call to Action editorial that: Targeted investments in our state’s assets are urgently needed and economically feasible, and can not wait the estimated two years until RIPEC’s structural reform proposals are fully implemented. That was back in 2012. They made sure they moved forward with the airport expansion to invest in our assets regardless of how many families lives were and are being destroyed. more to come on this---putting all the puzzle pieces together...
