I learned yesterday that climbing many flights of actual stairs is a much more intense workout than using any gym equipment. Also, although I was experiencing cardio effects, it was more a matter of weight lifting, as I was raising my own mass for many, many reps. I just walked from the bottom of my hospital to the top and back 2.5 times, and that divided into three occasions through the day. Each circuit took about 7-8 minutes to complete, and only made me a little flushed, so one round is totally something that I can do during lunch. But my calves and glutes explain that it is not to be done today. I did learn that while the hospital has 13 floors, 2 are taller than the others, so that there are about 15 floors worth of stairs to climb.
