I leave for the 5 ½ hour flight to Panaama City, Panama. Flying at 38000’, I can clearly see the ground/water most of the way. We fly the whole coast of Florida. I watch the continuous beach interspersed with communities and landmarks like Cape Canaveral. We cross the Carribean. I look down on the San Andreas Islands by Costa Rica. Panama is a mountainous, lush, green country. It is hot here….32 degrees. I transfer planes for the 9 hour flight to Montevideo. We fly south along the Pacific coast over Cali and Bogota Columbia, down through Le Paz, Bolivia, Peru and across the narrowing South American continent to Montevideo on the Atlantic side. Now, where is Montevideo? It is the capital of Republica Oriental del Uruguay, which we refer to simply as Uruguay. Now, where is that? No, it is not in the Orient. Uruguay is a smal country ⅔ the way down South America, fronting on the Atlantic Ocean. It sandwiches between two giant countries; massive Brazil to the north and east and the very long Argentina to the south. Why Uruguay? Why not? I have never been here before, which in itself ios a reason to go. But, we have some future friends here. They have a clubhouse on the beach, so I will spend a few days with them until I travel to?
