I left for the trailhead this morning with the intention of hiking - TopicsExpress

I left for the trailhead this morning with the intention of hiking from the Tom Thumb trailhead to the Gateway trailhead and then back. That is a challenging 15 mile hike. The weather was perfect for hiking. It was overcast and cool when I began my hike at 7:30am. At the top of Tom Thumb there was a Sheriff dept. helicopter flying low around Tom Thumb. I had never seen that before. I also noticed a rock climber on Tom Thumb. I had never seen that before either. As I approached the Gateway trailhead, I was feeling inspired and decided to hike across the entire preserve to the Sunrise trailhead. I have been considering this hike for a while, but was planning on doing it in September. There I was though, leaving the Gateway trial after watering up. I was embarking on a hike of another 13 miles in addition to the 7 ½ miles already hiked. Once I deviated off the main trails, I saw very few hikers or runners. I did not see a soul for the last 10 miles of the hike. I liked the solitude. I was off the trail by 3:15pm. I just finished ahead of the rain.
