I lied! I told someone that I would participate in the Ice Bucket - TopicsExpress

I lied! I told someone that I would participate in the Ice Bucket Challenge. While I will send a donation to ALS, I am not comfortable using my image and my influence in a way that would trivialize some of the colossal pains affecting our world. With the recent criminal shooting death of Michael Brown, Jr in Ferguson, the recent suicide of Robin Williams, the seemingly endless unrest and war in the Middle east, the bottomless pain of the families who are suffering the loss of their loved ones from, not one, but two Malaysian Airlines tragedies, and the silent suffering of that people are facing in their individual lives, I think its time for a new challenge. I realize that if peace is to happen in our lifetime, we are the ones to create it, one healed relationship at a time. One bridge of understanding at a time. One courageous conversation at a time. Today, I want to initiative a new Facebook Challenge. The White Flag Wage Peace Challenge. To be successful with this challenge, remember the three Cs: 1. Courage 2. Character and 3. Compassion If theres someone out there who you are not at peace with, have an unsettled dispute with, have not spoken to, are holding a grudge with or theres some other painful reason why you need to make peace with them, Invite them to Take the White Flag Peace Challenge via a Facebook video and tags. Heres how it works: 1. Write down your list (the longer the better). 2. Get a White Flag. It could be a towel, a handkerchief, a napkin --you get the picture. 3. Record your video, waving your White Flag and Waging Peace. Say something like this: My name is (insert your name) and Im calling a Truce with (insert name or names) and I Challenge You to Wage Peace with me within the Next 24 hours. Lets Squash It! 4. Upload your video to Facebook and other social media and let the magic unfold. 5. When your person responds, agree to have a phone call, text or email exchange or even sit down in person and Wage Peace Together. Dont leave until you SQUASH IT! Note: Please use this as an opportunity to build understanding, reconciliation, and peace. Please dont list the reasons youre calling out the person. Lets do no harm or damage with this campaign. Ok, go out there and SQUASH IT!
