I like this Comment found in the Comments on this image, although I am not a fan of the term Native American. Natives to this land were here long, long before anything called America.: Looks like the Warrior on the far left is wearing a kilt he got somewhere. I love how the Native Americans of that period often improvised found or traded wear and adorment with traditional. I tend to do that as well and found many a cool piece of clothing or adornment that I could either use or reinvent. When people talk about what is traditional I get what they mean but I also realize and have observed the way First Nations Cultures were clever at incorporating new things into their traditional cultures and enhancing them. Just go to a Pow Wow today anywhere and look at the variety of regalia. Its incredible and a good example of invention, preservation and adaption. That is why I believe strongly in the principles i see lived out in the best of the First Nations Men and Women I have met and read about. Their people will survive and rise like the Phoenix bird. An very old friend Elder I knew was a teacher, he was very spry for his age and attended Pow Wows and taught himself Native Crafts. He learned bead and quill work and made amazing moccasins . I was telling him once how I was studying Native American Music while at the University and he said to forget it - they are a dying race. I was shocked and felt he was so wrong. My Lifes journey showed him wrong. The First People are here to stay and they will get stronger.
