I like this article bc it gives you a perspective of the history of modern medicine that we dont hear about. It only originated a few generations ago, and of course has a political history. What doesnt? What I also find interesting, is if you read novels of that time period you get glimpses of this same story. I recently read the novel the signature of all things by Elizabeth Gilbert, and it was a great story which took place during a time when herbal medicines were being patented as pharmaceuticals. And you get a gist of how it gets transformed into a $$ making industry, starting in the 1800s. m.huffpost/us/entry/6103720
