I like to flip People through time & situations (see earlier post on The Interview movie) and show them their viewpoint during historical events. Today, lets take the American Revolutionary War. Only 3% of British Americans actually fought against Great Britain. Only 10% actively supported the 3%. About 20% said they sided with the Revolution, but didnt actively participate. The rest of the citizens didnt want anything to do with it. Ask yourself: Of the groups mentioned above... which group would you have belonged to? How many of you wouldve risked being criminals as those who actually fought were? How many of you wouldve supported those criminals? While youre pondering those questions, lets go a little further back in time. How many of you wouldve participated in the many Protests that occurred before the actual fighting began? How many of you wouldve sided with the Protestors? How many of you wouldve supported the Protestors in the 3 colonies who prevented the unloading of taxed tea? How many of you wouldve supported the Protestors who actually boarded and threw the taxed tea overboard during the Boston Tea Party? These were criminal acts, which is why some masqueraded as Indians. How many of you wouldve actually done anything criminal in a quest for independence? And lets not forget that in the beginning... the beef wasnt about independence. It was about taxation without representation. The numbers say: Not many of you would have. Certainly not the Privileged. They were comfortable with things being as they were. Most People never put their money where their mouth is, so that accounts for the 20%. 67% just want to be left alone. Okay with being uncomfortable, they are never able to see the bigger picture. To see what America could be. To see that things dont have to be as they are. To see that life can be better for their progeny if they change things. The 3% & 10% risk their freedom for the freedom of all. Including those who will look upon them as upsetting the status quo & interfering with their daily lives. Those who will view them as criminals and demand they be treated as such. Those who will Benedict Arnold them. There will also be those who will police for Great Britain... and no matter the cause... will do their jobs because they need to pay their bills. Neither Occupy Wall Street nor the current Anti-Police Brutality Protests are unjust causes. They are just causes, that if not dealt with, will spring forth bigger changes. Do any of you realize that if Great Britain had allowed British Americans to have representation, wed all be British now? Think about that when youre complaining that you cant ride your horsey because the Protestors are in the road.
