I like words. No scratch that, I love words! I love all words, big words with little meanings and little words with big meanings, simple words with complex meanings and complex words with simple meanings! It is words that teach us how the past unfolded and how our future can be shaped. The internet is an amazing part of the technology that has changed how people interact and communicate today. It has taken words far beyond what any of us can even fathom. With the click of a mouse we can find the meaning of a word or translate it into any language. We can give the written word Inflexion by changing font styles, colors and size with that same click. Never has so many words with so many meanings been so available to so many. As I traverse around the internet I take time to read and ponder what others have written. I quiet often find myself Googling this word or that or some phrase or question that has given me pause. The multiples of choices that are provide with each search is sometimes over whelming, but I always try to check out the top results. In doing so I have come across a lot of amazing ponderings by a lot of amazing people. Thus, such a search on the difference between this and that gave rise to this rambling. The words that got me to pondering was this statement “The single most obvious and most important difference between our time and just about all others is easy to forget”. The writer went on to iterate that the break in genuine communication between age groups and that the way most people learn their most important lessons is by making mistakes, and what is lost between the two. Throughout my life I have often been told that we learn by our mistakes, and that history is bound to be repeated if we do not learn by those mistakes. We as a whole must learn from, not only are own mistakes but mistakes of others. Even if one is of the mind set to think that it is their mistake let them own it, one must concede that there might be a lesson to learn. I honestly believe it is easier to learn from the mistakes of others then to have to suffer through making the mistakes ourselves. In the same way we use the lessons learnt in history to guide our societies into the future, we should carry the lessons that can be learnt from our peers and other age groups into our own future. The one thing that all of us should always remember and it is printed in many different languages, in many different communities, in many different countries on Cenotaphs around the world is “Lest We Forget”.
