I like yogurt, and its really good for you. Heres how I make my own ... 1-- Qt. 2% milk 2-- Tbs. Danon Plain Yogurt (this is the last time youll need to buy yogurt) (1) Place milk in a clean 2-qt container; microwave until milk just begins to boil; remove, stir, let cool until temp is110-115 degrees; (2) While milk cools add boiling water to a wide mouth 1-Qt. Thermos to sterilize and preheat, then let water stand until you add milk mixture later; (3) When milk cools to 110-115 deg stir in yogurt to evenly distribute; (4) Pour water out of thermos; pour milk mixture in, cap tightly, then set aside for 12-24 hours (24-hours for thicker yogurt); (5) Empty yogurt from Thermos into a clean container and refrigerate. TIPS: ** Be sure to use a thermometer. If milk is too hot it will destroy your culture and you will not have yogurt. ** For even thicker yogurt add a little pectin to the milk/yogurt mixture before you place it in Thermos. ** Be sure to set aside the last 2 to 3 Tablespoons of this home made batch to use as a starter culture for your next batch. If you keep doing this you will never have to buy yogurt again. ** Add your own fruit or other flavors such as raspberry jam, orange marmalade, etc. to the finished and chilled yogurt.
