I listed some free stuff on craigslist - a vinyl sofa, end tables, and an old stingray bike. I set everything out in the alley and left for awhile. When I came back, a beat up old Toyota was here and a beaming boy was riding the bike around in circles. His mother stopped him and they loaded the bike into the trunk. As they drove away, I could clearly see their smiles behind the glass. The end tables tale is a mystery. The vinyl sofa was being loaded into a van when I came out again. Was this yours? one of the men asked. It was, I said. Thank you, I love it, he said. Ive always wanted to be a game show host, the kind that just gives money away. I think this is about as close as Ill ever come. Its as wonderful as Id imagined.
