I listened to my preliminary round performances from the WIPAC - TopicsExpress

I listened to my preliminary round performances from the WIPAC competition on the CD I received. I havent heard the semifinal or final performances yet because I dont have the CDs. As usual, although there were some very nice moments in my playing, I was generally disappointed how I sounded and think there is still room for improvement even though I am generally improving and getting to where I want to be. Maybe the microphone which was right next to the piano picked up all the tiny blemishes, and the acoustics in the hall were not lively enough. In any case, I listened to the shaping of the melodic lines (crescendos, diminuendos, legato, beginnings and endings of phrases) and found a few instances where a note was suddenly soft or too loud, probably due to loss of finger control and maybe because I wasnt listening properly. I also found that the accompaniment was a little too loud or sometimes not all the notes in a chord sounded which spoils the harmony. This was the case in a few parts of the Abschied by Schumann. This requires projection of the melody with really soft accompaniment in the left hand chords but with every single note in each chord sounding, and I mean all notes. It is so easy for the accompaniment to suddenly become too loud and spoil the effect. I am my worst critic, I know what I want to achieve and will get there some day.
