I live in Connecticut. On an average its the third or fourth highly taxed state in the United States among the 50 states in the union. The average lowest petrol price for a gallon (3.8 liters) of 87 Octane (Regular Gasoline) now is $2.25. 1 US Dollar = INR 61.6 today. Lets peg it at INR 61.00 Even in spite of heavy taxation in Connecticut, 3.8 liters sells at INR 137.25 (61.00 x 2.25) i.e. just Rupees 36.11 per liter. Where is the rest of it going is something Modi Sarkaar has to explain to the general public if it boasts of the mammoth 2.42/liter price drop yesterday. I know that some over qualified think-tanks will jump like drunken monkeys that the math cannot be literally done this way. Even if you want to hike the taxes and handling prices twice as much, petroleum prices in India cannot go beyond Rupees 45.00 per liter. Who is fooling who is for you to decide for yourself. And people thanking the Central Govt for the paltry price drop must lace up and cry for more reduction in prices. Period.
