I live in Punggol, a place where I assumed there are younger - TopicsExpress

I live in Punggol, a place where I assumed there are younger people who are way more open minded and educated in terms of racial harmony based on the fact of what our schools have been doing. It came as a surprise to me that I am seeing so much more insensitive comments in my own neighbourhoods Facebook group. It that a Malay boy? Aiyo, must be PRC., Who did this? Must be indian right? I mean of course there are differences and differences aint easy to be accepted over night but I thought we are better than who we are to keep these insensitive comments in our head, but I was wrong. Back in the days, I am not saying 40s or 30s, even in the 80s or 90s where my parents had no clue what my Malay neighbours were talking about because of language barrier but they still greeted each other, wish each other during specific festivals and even to pick up the other language in order to get closer etc. What have changed? We removed the language barrier, supposed to be more aware/educated of the culture differences but yet we are moving backwards to diss each other base on culture stereotyping... Is that what knowing the difference had done or is it simply because we keep thinking we are better than you? When our brains get bigger, it seems like our heart got smaller and less space for others. This is why we are not and never be ready for Area 51. Saiyan, Wookies or Kryptonians. The truth is out there but we are not ready...
