I live in the world of more. Everybody wants more of everything, money, power, possessions, fame, fortune, prestige and the list can go on ad infinitum. I know this to be true that the less I have of all these things the happier I actually am. If I had more of these things I would just have more to worry about. I would have more stuff to guard from theft. I would have a reputation to protect. Because of my want for more power I would have more enemies. I would have fewer friends. I would have to watch my back constantly so no one could gain an edge on me. I would have to put an alarm on my house, have security cameras. We shape clay into a pot but it is the emptiness inside that makes it useful. We hammer wood for a house but it is the inner space that makes it livable. Life doesn’t need things to make it useful. Quite honestly the opposite is true. The less there are of things the easier life is. It’s not the spokes of a wheel that makes it turn but the center whole in the middle that all the spokes are attached to that makes it move. So many things in life are just that, things. How important are they? How much value do I place on material things? How much value do I place on prestige and honors? If I can be content on what I have instead of wishing for things I don’t have I would be much happier. This is a great place to think of gratitude. The more grateful I am the more of everything I seem to have. Less really does mean more. Because I don’t put much value on these human traits I can be at more peace with myself and those around me. I can live more serenely if I can accept my lot in life. No worries of things I don’t have when I can think this way. What it all comes down to for me is simple. Less stuff, less problems. Same with ego. Less ego, less problems. More ego, more problems. In this new way of life I am looking to shed myself of as many attachments as possible. I have everything I need right now in this very moment, everything!
