I live with a teacher. I watch Bosco dragging himself home after 5 - TopicsExpress

I live with a teacher. I watch Bosco dragging himself home after 5 everyday (he used to get home at 3:30) He comes in, drops his twenty pound load of papers on the chair, and collapses on the bed for about 20 mins. I usually bring him coffee and a snack. He gets up, sets the dining room table for his work, and starts grading stacks of papers and creating unnecessary minute by minute lesson plans for the next day that the administration has now demanded he create. This goes on until about 10 pm. If we are lucky we can watch an hour of tv together before bed. In between working on his massive amount of paperwork, he shares with me the tremendous STRESS the administration is heaping on him... and all the teachers in his school. There is a WAR ON TEACHERS happening in our schools that needs to be acknowledged. Its a total breakdown. Our teachers are not our enemies. Our teachers should be cherished. Our teachers are heroes. Our teachers are perhaps the best HOPE we have for shaping the next generation. And Parents GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER. Dont send you kid to school unless you KNOW that your child has done his homework. Dont send your kid to school unless you KNOW that he has a pen and paper with him. Dont send your kid to school so drugged up that he doesnt even know where he is. Dont send your kid to school angry and hungry. CREATE a HOME for your child and for Gods sake... STOP BLAMING TEACHERS FOR YOUR INABILITY TO RAISE A CHILD WHO CAN COME INTO THE CLASS ROOM AND SIT HIS BUTT IN A CHAIR. A CHILD WHO CAN TAKE OUT A NOTEBOOK AND A PEN, AND TREAT THE TEACHER, THE SCHOOL AND HIS CLASSMATES NOT ONLY WITH RESPECT, BUT WITH GRATITUDE THAT HE IS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO GET AN EDUCATION. TAKE THE PHONE OUT OF HIS HAND, TAKE HIS GAMES AWAY, TURN THE TV OFF AND PARENT. THAT IS A VERB. PARENT YOUR CHILD. THIS is what my friend Tom Andolora has to say about that!
