I lived back then too. When my boys were growing up, we put money - TopicsExpress

I lived back then too. When my boys were growing up, we put money in meters under the stairs for our utilities. No money, no heat or electric. I even rented a television that you put money in the back of. For the first seven years of my first marriage, I washed all the clothes of my boys, husband, and myself every Saturday in the bathtub. This included sheets, towels, etc., hand wrung, and hung on an outside line. Only after seven years, did I finally get a boiler with a mangle attached. A washing machine, dryer, and dishwasher, were luxury items. Most of my friends still hang their washing out. Young people have no clue, and especially young Americans. This country is young in comparison to the rest of the free world, and for the most part, have never had to deal without these things. I was even concerned when I moved into my first apartment here. I thought the previous tenants had left their dishwasher and fridge behind. Couldnt believe they actually came with the place. Depressing going down memory lane sometimes.
