I lived in the DC Metro area for forty years. I left. Strange how violence in DC,Philadelphia, Chicago,New York,Baltimore.LA,and Boston continues.Americas urban condition retains a randomness unheard of in other developed nations in Europe, and Asia. In my forty years living in the District I recall vividly the day when the entire violence issue became perilous. The year was 1967 and it was the beginning of the drug epidemic. Unlike liquor which had been the great source of revenues and enjoyment in the tedious and boring government town.Drunks remain a tremendous source of amusement amongst our citizens.It lubricated the unfortunate souls who had to invent jobs for their numerous relatives. DC appears to be on the right track toward a more peaceful time,but long term neglect ruined the government,the schools,the hospitals,the parks,and the housing prices in large sectors of the city.Black and white fled taking with them their dreams,money, and children.
