I look at my palm Reddened with mehendi leaves As red as the feet of the dove Redder than the corals of the sea.... In through whirlpool of thoughts I think of all that you said When we met at the well In your backyard... Your manly hand touched My gentle heart while you Helped me remove the rope That stuck in the pulley... Drawing water from the well was the only work i always Wished to do...as a teenager... The hours we spent sitting behind The well...facing silence and Nothingness... My hand locked in yours My head on your shoulder Sharing the sweet meat ... My mother cooked... I remember the mehendi paste You brought for me... You applied it on my palm You loved to look at it Your kisses on my palm still afresh In my heart... My mother used to say Looking at my red palm That I would love more.. My love would be deeper And stronger ... And I used To blush.. But for whom...I knew not then.. Today I went past your house The empty walls...the dust on it The well and the stagnant water in it Mock at me... Dearest...what if I married someone... Why did you vanish from this world ??
