I looked into Taoism. I was 23 and Whitter Bynners Way of Life was given to me. The first half of the book describes Whitters way of translation was intended to be less literal and more poetic. Explaining the difficulty in truly knowing how or by whom Taoism was started. A story of a boarder guard writing down what Lao Tzu said was the offering here. So I was grateful and kept that book with me. I can feel some passages are foundational early writings and others are linear advice inspired by actions of specific governments at that time. I found the passages about water most useful. I pondered that book eventually finding favorite passages. As is with every such book I find purity and contamination. I looked into a Taoist group here on Facebook. And there were rules as to what manuscript could be discussed. To keep out the Wayne Dyer Alan Watts and The Tao according to Winny the Poo comments and the copy and paste Facebook fair stuff like scripture resists discussion as well. Seems at some point in Taoism God in some form is mentioned. News to me. Controversy. Factions. Rules. ~ Be like water, serve as we go along. And yes we can learn to yield with life ! Time for a fresh word.
