I love Johnny singing this, but my model and inspiration is a small - 48 - Jewish woman named Grace Tarches Burton. She is flanked by her sisters - Siddell and Ruth. Aunt Ruthie was the youngest, and to the end was a beautiful woman with waist-length silver-grey hair. She and her beloved life partner Uncle Mac - Meyer Berger - were on the original Committee of 100 who took out the LA Times ad against the Vietnam war. At the end of her life, which included losing a child to suicide, Mac drove her around the country in a mobile home. For a time, Grace traveled with them. Ruthie didnt know it - she had Alzheimers pretty bad by then. Aunt Sidell was the oldest. She was a firecracker - a libertarian who built Rancho Jeep with her husband, met her second husband on the Dating Game, and selfishly sued Social Security over spousal benefits (mind you. she was wealthy) - but thereby gave rights to millions of women who lost rights and suffered financially because of our marriage laws. The story was that someone wanted her to be a child star, and despite their dire poverty, my grandfather turned it down. (Sidell and I tlaked, in ways she couldnt talk with her kids. My mom did the same with Sidells. More to come
