I love Prison Films and thought Id list my top 5 films, keep in mind what I consider prison films involves a film where they are in prison all day, not just some of the time, so films like American History X or A Clockwork Orange will not be in there. 5. The Hurricane, Denzel Washington is amazing in this film, I originally put Escape Plan in this slot and remembered this film and theres no way this cant be on the list. It also helps greatly that this is based on a true story, so theres lots of backstory to look up. 4. Get the Gringo, I had this on my Instant Queue from Netflix for a while than I watched it and really loved it, Mel Gibson is excellent in this film and while its very different from your typical prison film(mainly because Mexican prisons are like small communities)it still fits the criteria. Check it out if you can, many like to think of this as a Payback sequel, but its not 3. Escape From Alcatraz, Clint Eastwood is really all I have to say to convince you to watch this film, but what I love about this film is how simple it is and how the characters interact. Too bad no special edition has come from this film. 2. Green Mile, one of two collaborations Frank Darabont had with Stephen King and his short stories. Its one of those films that always has you asking yourself what happened? Not because its hard to follow but the Frank Darabont always leaves you wondering and leaves you to answered it your own way. Michael Clarke Duncan and Tom Hanks are freaking amazing in their roles and you really feel for both of them. The conclusion is equally as incredible because it never went the Hollywood way. Sam Rockwell is is incredible in this too as the sicko. 1. The Shawshank Redemption, this has to be my favorite film, this is the film that got me into the Prison Drama category. It also what made me a Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman fan for life. Clancy Brown plays a despicable lead officer and William Sadler has a small but memorable role. Other notable mentions, Alien 3, Escape Plan, Lock Up, Girls in Prison(1994)
