I love Punjabis, the turbaned sort. Other Punjabis are a mix of good and bad, but in my whole life, I have never met a really crooked Sikh. They are generally very hardworking, generous hosts, open minded (though some are fanatical regarding religion). Their womenfolk are beautiful, with aquiline/equine features, healthy and mince no words. Punjabi Sikhs are great optimists. Once Khushwant Singh met a Sikh and asked him Kee Haal Ho? The man replied, First class, Changa!. Later on Khushwant found out that various sorts of misfortune had befallen his friend recently but he still struck a positive note. Sikhs are a proud race. You will not find them bending down to anybody. Even Sonia treated MMS with kid gloves, though MMS was a very mild natured man. She knew that if she crossed the limit, MMS would respond and a Sikh, as we all know, is capable of anything once he is provoked. They are impulsive to an extreme degree. Recently a Sikh Rotarian I had met only briefly twice last year at Silchar and Tezpur invited me to his home at Asansol. He has a nice wife (married her straight from the village, he said) and 3 lovely daughters. Eldest in X, second in VII and the youngest in I. The latter is angelic, with the cutest face and long, long waist length hair reminiscent of yesteryears child star Baby Guddu. A simple, one storeyed house with a sprawling compound, beautiful flowers. But he is ready to leave it all behind for a chance to go to the land of milk and honey - US of A. They have relatives there who will help them get a toehold, then a foothold there. Both husband and wife will work hard, honestly to build up a bright future for their family. I salute your enterprising spirit, my friend MSL (Y) HAPPY LOHRI
