I love birthdays! Today is my husbands birthday, and as it turns out, the birthday of several dear friends. I have often heard that people who have birthdays around this holiday season struggle, feel they get lost in the shuffle of all the other merry making, and thats too bad. From recent experiences with my beloveds birthday on December 30th I can say that its wonderful to have a celebration of life come so quickly after Christmas has passed. Is there anything over as fast as Christmas? In Connecticut, where I lived from 6th grade through college, people tended to put up Christmas trees closer to December 25th and leave them up well into January. I loved the lingering lights during those dark, cold, dreary winter days. They reminded us to keep celebrating past December 25th and January 1st. My husbands birthday today, and my bonus sons on January 3rd, are now my lingering lights! The celebrating continues through the end of one year and the beginning of another. And thats why I love birthdays, we celebrate the passage of one year and all thats been experienced and learned, and we take that with us into a new year, full of hope, promise and expectation.
