I love my boy but I got news tonight that my vet had gone into his pasture, to collect Indys gf/cougar 24 yr old mare (who I think may have been in heat which would explain things..) to give her some shots. She told my mom that he rushed/charged her and scared the crap out of her, reporting that she doesnt scare easy but this really freaked her out. She has a lot of horse experience and worked at the track for a while before becoming a vet.) The barn staff has a system and gets Indy first because they know he gets bossy. There is also another variable of a new(ish) 10 yr old Tennessee walker gelding that had been added to his pasture about 3 months ago, due to barn necessity for pasture space. Since the addition.. I have noticed his behavior change.. Long story short, my guy acted like a dominant jerk and I need advice. Please be kind. I am a little upset that my vet went in blind into the middle of the pasture without asking of the usual system. Is there anything I can do to change his herd/pasture behavior? I do a lot of natural horsemanship work with him and correct immediately if he challenges me at all. Thanks guys.
