I love my cousins; theyre just far enough removed to not know me very well. My cousin Leroy Chatfield called the day before I was published on Create Space: Leroy: I hear your book is out. Will you mail me five copies? me: No. Leroy: What do you mean, no? me: No. First, to mail you books, I have to have some. I dont, and wont for about a month. And if I did, Id have to find a box, wrap them up, address them, stand in line at our grungy post office for 20 minutes, have them stamp postage all over it, and then do that again for the next cousin who thinks I like standing in line at the post office, like Paul Clement. Please dont make me go there. side note: (Thats why I dont send out Christmas cards. I dont want to be in the book selling business. Its neither time nor cost effective. I make between $1.84 and $3.25 per book. Do the math. And, its not even about the money. At this point Im so far upside down with this book every yacht owner on the planet is laughing at me.) Leroy: But I want them signed, theyre for my daughters. me: Forget it, you cant read my handwriting anyway. Tell you what, Ill meet you halfway so its only a 45 minute drive for each of us, well have lunch, and Ill sign the books and give them to you. Just dont make me go to the post office… please.
