I love my new Iranian neighbors, Rezi and Hooman, young men the same age as my older children, (late twenties), attending college in the area on scholarship. They loved that I took an interest in talking to them, discussing politics, world religions, philosophy and a variety of cultural subjects. They were very impressed with my knowledge of ancient Persian history, (mainly gleaned from my years of studying the Bible and associated texts), as well as the past century in the news. I enjoyed listening to all their opinions about their government and ours, (they are much too enamored with our U.S. government). They told me their journalists were all arrested and put in prison there. I nodded knowingly, then dead panned that our government just has our dissident journalists killed. Prisons in the US must be reserved for all the potheads. Wided eyed and obviously stunned, they were speechless for a second, but then they both began to laugh loudly and hysterically. : )
